Rachel's Mac & Cheese with Breakfast Sausage Recipe
Ingredients:
Directions:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cook pasta according to manufacture'rs directions. Drain and put into a greased baking pan.
Cook breakfast sausage according to manufacturer's directions. Drain and set aside.
In a medium saucepan on medium heat, melt the butter. Add flour to melted butter and stir to combine. When mixture is creamy, add milk. Cook on medium/medium-low until mixture thickens, stir constantly.
Remove mixture from heat. Add cheese. Stir until melted. Add drained sausage to cheese sauce.
Pour cheese sauce over the cooked pasta and mix thoroughly. Add crumbled Ritz Crackers to cover. Bake in preheated over for 20-25 minutes. Let cool for 5 minutes to allow cheese sauce to set.
- 1/2 stick of salted butter
- 2 Tbsp of all purpose flour
- 2 1/2 cups of 2% milk
- 2 1/2 cups of shredded cheese (any type good for melting)
- 1 lb of breakfast sausage (without casings)
- 1 lb of pasta (rotini or penne works best)
- Ritz Crackers to top
