Episode 194: The Lesser Known Greats

This week, Josh and Dietrich decide to spend some time raving about authors that are nowhere near as popular as they should be, the lesser known great authors. Dietrich talks about an essayist and a science fiction author that are both quietly redefining their genres and reminds us of his deep abiding love of Harry Turtledove, Josh raves about Brian Evenson, John Connolly, and some other terrifyingly dark authors, and they both eagerly discuss one of the most exciting fantasy authors today, Saladin Ahmed. In addition, they read an email that includes some of the best writing prompts from Reddit, Dietrich is torn about the conclusion of the Abercrombie trilogy, and Josh may have found his favorite Dennis Lehane novel of all time. Finally, they wrap up with a discussion of the new Netflix series Stranger Things, a horror film that is much more interesting than it has any right to be, and a video game that had Josh settling some old scores.
