Episode 184: The Great Relationships

Picture
This week, Josh and Dietrich sit down to talk about relationships in storytelling. Valentine's Day inspires them both to discuss the best and worst romantic relationships in storytelling, they look at some of the best depictions of family throughout literature, and they talk about ways that authors can show the depth of a friendship. It's a discussion they're both surprised hasn't come up until now, particularly considering how much a good relationship can contribute to a story. In addition, Dietrich is disappointed at how a promising series seems to be going off the rails, Josh finishes one of the most obscure classics of fantasy in history, and they both consider a Tom Clancy novel that may have more in common with comic books than other literature. Finally, Josh raves about a podcast taking a unique look at film, and looks at the newest film from the Coen Brothers. A technical glitch gobbled the last few moments of the recording, but Dietrich encourages you all to check out the Still Buffering podcast, the movie Deadpool, and the extraordinary game Firewatch.
