Episode 176: SCBWI Midsouth 2015

Once again, the Library Police have been given the opportunity to visit the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators conference in Nashville, TN, and had the opportunity to sit down with several authors. First, they sit down with the writing team of Jen Malone and Gail Nall, the authors of the You're Invited series, as well as the authors of several independent books. Next, the illustrator of the Percy Jackson series and Caldecott award winner John Rocco talks about the importance of learning the fundamentals, the challenge of matching art style with the writing, and the contrast between writing and art. Finally, Josh and Dietrich wrap up with a conversation with Courtney Stevens, the author of Faking Normal, The Lies about Truth, and more, touching on how to incorporate difficult and challenging topics in a book aimed at teenagers. We'd like to thank the wonderful Rae Ann Parker, and the staff of SCBWI, for making us feel so welcome, and for giving us this excellent opportunity.
