Episode 173: Narration Games

This week, Josh and Dietrich sit down to discuss unusual narrators. With the popularity of books like Gone Girl, more and more authors are playing around with narrators that are unreliable, unusually involved in the story, or more. Dietrich talks about narrators whose age dictates how the reader views the story, including books like To Kill a Mockingbird and The Age of Miracles. Josh looks at unreliable narrators, from Alzheimer's patients to sociopaths, and how it changes the reader's perception of the entire book. The two discuss the phenomenal Curious Case of the Dog in the Night-Time, where a narrator with autism looks at the world from a completely unique perspective. In addition, Josh revisits a podcast favorite author with F. Paul Wilson, Dietrich talks about what may be their first cookbook review, and Josh raves about a new book from Patrick Dewitt. Finally, they wrap up with an HBO documentary, a YouTube series, and look back at the career and influence of Jon Stewart. You can send questions and comments to us by utilizing our Contact Us form.
