Episode 169: Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer

This week, the trio sits down to discuss the gripping and harrowing nonfiction book Into Thin Air by journalist Jon Krakauer. This story of the disastrous 1996 Everest expedition is one of Dietrich's favorites, and he's been excited to discuss this with the others. Josh talks about the difficulty of Krakauer balancing being involved with being an observer, Dietrich discusses the horrifying depiction of conditions on the highest point on Earth, and Rachel debates the best way to recommend such a grueling and harsh book to other readers. While Josh was a bit cooler on the book than Dietrich and Rachel, all three agree that it's a remarkable bit of storytelling, and one that deserves a spot in anyone's library. In addition, Rachel finishes her first Joe Hill novel, Dietrich revisits one of Alan Moore's graphic novels, and Josh talks about the newest book from Tom Rob Smith, the author of podcast favorite Child 44. Also, as expected, Josh and Dietrich rave about the newest Stephen King novel. Finally, Dietrich bemoans the staggering disappointment that was Tomorrowland, Rachel talks about the spectacle of Jurassic World, and Dietrich and Josh talk about their differing views on the finale of Mad Men.
