Episode 164: Trainspotting by Irvine Welsh

This week is a first for The Library Police book club, as only two of the Library Pigs finish the book. Rachel chimes in initially with why she only made it halfway through Irvine Welsh's drug opus, and the trio discusses the pros and cons of the book's love of Scottish dialect and accents. Dietrich and Josh acknowlege the similarities between this an Palo Alto, while both agreeing that Trainspotting is wildly superior. They talk about the comparison between the movie and book, and look at the challenge of adapting such a wildly chaotic and thematic book to something that would translate well to movie audiences. Finally, they all take a close look at the Bad Blood chapter, discussing the choice to take the book to such a savagely dark place, and the decision not to include it in the film. In addition, there's a bit more Terry Pratchett love from listener and host alike, Josh continues his Rick Riordan kick, and Dietrich revisits a masterpiece. The trio wrap up with a discussion of city planning, serial killers, spies, gunslingers, STD parables, and a contender for the greatest video game of all time.
