Episode 160: The Long Delayed Sequel

There was little doubt that this week's discussion would touch on the monumental news of a second book from To Kill A Mockingbird author Harper Lee, but this week, the trio use this announcement as a springboard to discuss the phenomenon of a long-delayed sequel. Between the Harper Lee announcement and the reveal of a new Dragon Tattoo novel, there's plenty to discuss. Josh discusses some of the concerns surrounding the iconic author's new book, Dietrich talks about the monumental pressure an author must feel when revisiting a tremendously influential or popular work, and Rachel talks about the challenge of meeting the expectations of the public. The three also talk about long delayed sequels that have worked, and others that have flopped miserably. In addition, Rachel raves about a Joe Hill short story, Dietrich reads one of his favorite short story collections with his daughter, and Josh is delightfully disturbed by a twisted new book in the tradition of Lovecraft. Finally, they wrap up with a discussion of two Oscar-nominated films, two wildly different games, and a unique card game. You can send questions and comments to us by utilizing our Contact Us form.
