Episode 145: Trigger Warnings

This week, Josh and Dietrich sit down to discuss a recent topic in education and publishing. Recently, some people have been asking whether it might be a good idea to insert trigger warnings into the introduction of some university classes. It didn't take long for people to ask if it might be appropriate to insert these warnings at the beginning of books. For people whose lives have been touched by violence or abuse, these triggers can be extremely upsetting, and some are asking for authors to provide a bit of warning. It's a delicate topic, with the pair acknowledging the uncomfortable concern of this leading to censorship, while also recognizing the value in protecting readers from surprises that could be harmful. Before that, Dietrich revisits a truly beloved classic, while Josh rounds out the Scott Lynch books still just as happy with the unorthodox and wonderful fantasy series as ever. The pair round out the discussion with a monster movie, a pair of new albums, and a popular new mobile game that leaves Dietrich somewhat ambivalent.
