Episode 134: Assigned Reading

Picture
After a technical issue devoured not one, but TWO entire episodes, the trio has made some tweaks and is back with an episode that's a bit off format. Instead, the three sections focus on the books that Chris, Dietrich and Josh assigned each other to read. First, Josh and Dietrich sit down and discuss "The Lies of Locke Lamora", by Scott Lynch. It's a genuine success, as Josh revels in this unique and extraordinary fantasy world wrapped around - of all things - a heist story. Second, Dietrich and Chris discuss Chris's attempt to woo Dietrich to the side of Hemingway lovers with "The Old Man And The Sea". It's not an entirely successful effort, as Dietrich comes away liking Hemingway no more than he did before, but respecting his influence on modern day literary masters. Finally, Josh and Chris discuss the disturbing and rich world in "Meditations in Green" by Stephen Wright (not the comedian). Described as Catch-22 set in Vietnam, the pair discuss the dark humor and disturbing angles of this hard-to-find Vietnam war classic. You can send questions or comments to questions@thelibrarypolice.com.
